ABSENCE AS A CONDITION OF SENSATION
European Ceramic Work Centre, the Netherlands, 2015
A 2 x 5 meter net was hung from fixed points in the studio. After the net was secured, specific double curvature surfaces appeared, and I chose to re-translate some of the surfaces into ceramic pieces.
The plaster surfaces were rebuilt using small casted ceramic modules. Each surface was fabricated twice: One time using a traditionally fabricated ceramic module and the other using a CNC milled cast. Both modules were found and documented at the EKWC residency by using 3D scanning techniques and traditional molding.
The result is a collection of eight ceramic sculptures, each with different material qualities according to the fabrication technologies.
